'J. Edgar' this Saturday
ABC reviewer, David Stratton writes, 'Clint Eastwood's excellent biopic of one of the most powerful of all American public figures, J. Edgar Hoover, simply confirms the strengths of this director. Without fussy camerawork or a sensationalist approach, Eastwood and his writer, Dustin Lance Black (who also wrote MILK) assume their audience to be adult and intelligent and tell the never less than fascinating story with cool elegance.' And 'J. Edgar' is this month's screening from the Magnetic Island Film Society and will be screened at the RSL Hall on Saturday (tomorrow) night.

The story of an 84 year old Kenyan man Maruge, (Oliver Litondo), who insisted on his right, as offered by the government, to a free education, is the subject of the film 'The First Grader'. When Maruge turns up at the village school he's initially turned away by the principal Mrs. Obinchu (Naome Harris), but his persistence eventually wins her over. 'The First Grader is Magnetic Island Film Society's offering for members and the general public keen to see interesting, quality films. It's screening at the RSL Hall in Hayles Ave, Arcadia, this Saturday night.

What a wonderful outcome for the school! I had a great time face-painting with Luke and Sasha, met lots of kids and parents,scored some great books at the Trash n Treasure stall, and even remembered to vote. Everywhere you looked people were enjoying themselves...such a tribute to the organisers. Well done!
