Fuel reduction planned burns continue in Nelly Bay

The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service will continue the planned burn program on Magnetic Island taking advantage of the ideal weather conditions forecasted for the rest of the week.

The first burn will take place behind residential areas on the south western side of Nelly Bay on Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th of June. The fires will take place after midday each day and run into the late afternoon.

Fire crews will be burning into bushland from fire access tracks to reduce fuel loads near residential areas. Work will take place along the Hideaway Estate to Compass Crescent section on Wednesday and crews will work along the section from Yates Street to Opalia Court on Thursday.

QPWS Rangers will be assisted by the Queensland Fire and Rescue Service and Department of Environment and Resources fire crew.

Rangers will be informing all direct neighbours today about the planned burns and ask Nelly Bay residents to be aware they may be affected by smoke.

For more information, please call Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service on Magnetic Island on 4778 5378.

Tonia In reply to The ongoing price of Nelly Bay Harbour
It's 14 years since I last visited Maggy. I am shocked by Nelly Bay and saddened. It is insensitive, ugly and juxtaposed to the essence of Maggy. I embrace progress in general, but this is poorly conceived and executed. Shame.
