Win tickets to the early Jazz party

John Hoffman with bassist Georgia Webber For any readers who had become accostomed to The Great Tropical Jazz Party being the big Island cultural event in October each year, be warned. The Party is coming early, at the cooler dates of September 14 to 16 and Magnetic Times News Club readers are again in the slot to win a free double pass.

This will be the eleventh GTJP and, MI Jazz Association President, Marilyn Sheather told Magnetic Times, "We had to change so as not to clash with the Greek Festival and Octoberfest in Townsville so we opted for the cooler period now just two weeks away in mid September."

Over the years the festival has earned an impeccable reputation with musicians and audiences alike as one of Australia's premier jazz events. This year's line-up of international and national talent promises to exceed expectations once again.

The 2007 Great Tropical Jazz Party will be held over the three days, from the 14th to 16th September, at the Magnetic International Resort in Nelly Bay.

The festival will showcase 12 bands presenting an eclectic mix of jazz styles in a range of intimate tropical settings - from Friday night's Jazz Under The Stars, to the two six hour poolside concerts on Saturday and Sunday and the evening jam sessions - making this a truly memorable, total jazz experience.

2007 will feature some of the best bands that Australasia has to offer - Julie Mason Trio(NZ), Errol Buddle Quartet (Sydney), NZ/Aust.Connection, singer Bonnie J.Jensen with Wanderlust (Sydney), John Mackey Quartet (Sydney), Hoffman/Newcomb Quintet (Brisbane), Swingmatism (Sydney), Bob Henderson Band (Sydney) and a former Magnetic Island girl, who is studying at the Queensland Conservatorium in Brisbane and now emerging as a major talent, Natalie Dajski, will be performing with Friends.

These special visitors will be complemented by some of North Queensland's finest talent including, Counterpoint, Club Trio and the Andrew Dajski Sextet

Festival Director, Marilyn Sheather said "Every Jazz Party seems to be better than the last and our 11th Great Tropical Jazz Party promises two days and three nights of some the best Jazz you will hear anywhere in Australia"

"The Party works so well because the venue is very intimate, the audiences are appreciative and the setting (and the weather) is beautifully tropical. This mix ensures that the visiting musicians have a great time and as a result the party really swings" Marilyn said

The 11th Great Tropical Jazz Party is a must for anyone who appreciates fine musicianship balmy days and nights and the magic that Jazz can create.

A weekend pass, giving admission to all events, costs $50 and tickets to individual concerts will also be available.

But for members of the magnetictimes.com News Club we have two double passes to the whole festival to give away. The winners, who correctly answer the following question, will be notified after the entries are drawn on Wednesday 12 September.

And the question is: What instrument, apart from vocals, will Natalie Dajski be "frontlining" with, as noted in the GTJP 2007 Lineup notes (CLICK HERE)
