Resource awareness grants - closing soon

Grants available to groups raising public awarness about protecting Queensland's resources Time is running out to apply for Community Natural Resource Awareness Activity Grants, funded by the Department of Natural Resources and Mines (NR&M).

Applications are open until Friday October 24 for community groups to submit proposals for grants up to $2500 for innovative activities to promote best use of Queensland's natural land, water vegetation, mineral and petroleum assets.

NR&M Corporate Communications director Mick Lord said grants were available to natural resource management volunteers groups, including Landcare and catchment management committees, to develop projects in partnership with other community, youth, school or business groups, or local government.

"We are looking for creative activities which take an entertainment, educational or cultural approach to natural resource management," he said.

"It could be a performance, an interactive fun day, or a community debate - anything which captures attention and raises public awareness."

Mr Lord said the projects and activities generated by the grants would be the focus of Queensland Resources Week around the state next year from May 23-30.

"This is a great opportunity to get involved in local natural resource management and celebrate the week in your community."

Copies of the Community Natural Resource Awareness Activity Grant guidelines and application form are available from the grants coordinator on Ph: 3224 7505 or can be downloaded from the departmental website on
