Community Protest Meeting

Jenny Stirling Magnetic Islanders, who are not happy about the direction of development on the Island, are worried about the lack of beds at Townsville Hospital and other local issues, have the opportunity to meet with other like-minded people in Townsville this Sunday

The Townsville Greens organiser of the protest meeting, Jenny Stirling said, "Enough is enough. People of Townsville have had enough of being treated like dills."

"Townsville is going through rapid change with some new and large developments being proposed that are not always in the best interests of the whole community. People deserve to know the other side of the 'development' story: the side that does not appear in glossy brochures."

Jenny Stirling cited issues such as: the proposed road through Townsville's Flinders Mall; the V8s supercar event planned for next year; conditions at Townsville hospital; Cape Pallarenda and Magnetic Island development issues; the proposed canal estate adjacent to the Townsville Port and Cungulla Wetlands destruction as some of the hot topics for the meeting.

Attendees will have the opportunity to write their own "report card" about how well the state government and the new Council are managing the development of Townsville.

"Time is running out. If people want the right to have a say in the future of their city then they must be prepared to stand up for what they believe in", said Ms Stirling.

The protest starts at 10.30 am in the Mall (behind Maccas).

Jenny Stirling said, "Residents will be able to listen to speakers, ask questions and generally have their say about these issues in a safe peaceful manner."

The Greens have always had to be "agitators. Going by the comments of the late Justice Murphy, agitators are good company. "many of the great religious and political figures of history have been agitators, and human progress owes much to the efforts of these and the many unknown. As Wilde aptly pointed out in The Soul of Man under Socialism. "agitators are a set of intefering, meddling people, who come down to some perfectly contented class of the community and sow the
seeds of discontent amongst them. That is the reason why agitators are so absolutely necessary. Without them, in our incomplete state, there would be no advance towards civilisation"

Jenny is entitled to be an agitator & veryone who cares are able can be an agitator (if just for one day)

Go girl. Wish I was there (even to enjoy the warm tropical sun to balance the coolness of Canberra for just one day)
