Magnetic's new marketplace

Open for advertising Imagine this: a magical new street has appeared recently, somewhere on Magnetic Island. It's a friendly and very community-minded street where almost everything of interest on the Island can be found.

Already, thousands of Islanders and visitors have visited the new street and have been seen there having fun, bargain hunting at the local flea market; attending exhibitions, footy matches, Christmas parties, charity and school events, fashion shows, theatre shows, clubs, meetings and many other events which are held there often.

The street never sleeps and is active 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It is a dream environment for shops to be located too, with up to and over 200 people wandering up and down the footpaths daily and steadily increasing in numbers. Only thing is, in the time since the street opened, the shops just hadn't been completed and businesses were unable to open!

More and more visitors keep arriving. They have discovered that they can have their photo taken having fun on the street. It gets placed on the internet where they can post it as an email postcard to any of their friends for free. Then their friends come too and the street gets busier.

Until last week, that magical street's equivalent on the internet, , was in just that situation. But not any more!

With our new advertising function, business people can now make their presence known on the "street" - and in some prime locations!

Open for Business
We are of course talking about advertising on Magnetic Island's only, and very busy, news website.

You may not have even noticed but some months ago we linked nearly every Island business with a website (for free) through our Island Links section. It is quite possible you have already received some business through us without noticing how a client found you. It hasn't been a part of the site we have promoted yet but we hope it has helped and for our part this is simply good will we are happy to spread in our community. Through it more visitors have come to us in return - which, alongside our other sections, has helped make us such a fast growing local site.

Looking after locals
As a local businessperson you have probably thought already about the internet, websites and how you can make the most of the new technology. Every business will have a different perspective and some will benefit more than others but we believe that there is no local business which cannot benefit to some degree from the web. So, as your local paper, we have decided to make sure that every Island business is looked after by expanding our listing to all Island businesses with a contact email or website address and telephone number: FREE!

All we would ask in return for this service is that you give us a reciprocal link on your website and you become a subscriber. Being a subscriber is free too and all it entails is that you permit us to store your email address so we can email you any important news stories as they come to hand. We can also assure you that we do not share our subscriber list with anybody so you wont be inviting unwelcome junk mail (spamming)!

Standing out from the crowd
If however, you would like to stand out from the crowd, with something more than a basic listing, we have developed an affordable product specifically to cater for small businesses.

It is, of course, one thing to have a web presence but if nobody comes to look then why bother? This is where we can make a difference. It is a very simple, straightforward and informative approach that saves you the effort of building and maintaining a website that may not attract many visitors who are not specifically seeking your services.

What we do is put out to the world all you really want to have known about your business. By allowing us to add your business promotional info to a page within the website, your business is right there, like the shops we mentioned above - facing onto a busy street - where the traffic is. Building that traffic is our job and one we are seeing great results from.

Where the Locals Go and Others Follow
It is the Classifieds and Island Links directory which, like the locally based Classifieds/Trades pages in the Magnetic Times paper, provides an ideal local trade focus. Except in this instance an Island property owner or businessperson from Victoria for example, who might need work performed locally, will find the Trades/Classifieds very useful too. With classifieds being placed on the site as soon as they are received, there is plenty of interest from locals who return to check for any new bargains.

To make sure you get good exposure across a range of interest areas we will also place your banner in a total of five sections of magnetictimes we think will best suite your kind of business. These could include: Editorial, Eve

Syl Hayes In reply to Fair raises $15,000 for school
What a wonderful outcome for the school! I had a great time face-painting with Luke and Sasha, met lots of kids and parents, scored some great books at the Trash n Treasure stall, and even remembered to vote. Everywhere you looked people were enjoying themselves...such a tribute to the organisers. Well done!
