Magnetic Island Tourism & Business Awards winner's announced
On Friday night All Seasons hotel at Nelly Bay came alive with the business and tourism stars of Magnetic Island being recognised at the inaugural Magnetic Island Tourism and Business Awards.
The awards, a joint-initiative by Sunferries and Tourism Operators and Businesses Magnetic Island (TOBMI) were designed to acknowledge the achievements of the great businesses and tour operators on Magnetic Island.
The Magnetic Island Tourism and Business Awards featured 10 categories of awards, ranging from best tour operator, best tourist attraction, ecotourism/sustainable, events, best business services and best accommodation.
The awards also included a people’s choice award which was voted for by the public.
‘Magnetic Island is home to a diverse array of great businesses and operators that are often overlooked for awards or are under-resourced to participate in the national awards nights,’ Sunferries Marketing and Commercial Manager Meredith Elley said.
‘The introduction of a Magnetic Island Tourism and Business Awards has been the ideal vehicle to recognise the outstanding businesses and operators that are on Magnetic Island and to shine a light on the range of great products and services that tourists will experience when they visit the island,’ Ms Elley said.
TOBMI president Lindsay Simpson also commented that ‘It's great to have the opportunity for Magnetic Island businesses to be rewarded for their efforts. TOBMI would like to increase awareness of the island nationally and internationally as a premier tourism destination in North Queensland.’
‘I hope these awards will contribute to that ambition and we are pleased to be jointly involved in the venture with Sunferries to bring recognition to island tourism operators.’
Townsville Enterprise’s General Manager, Destination Marketing and Development Scott Waters is highly supportive of the initiative for the island.
‘It was a fantastic evening for the Island and the Tourism Industry, all entrants were of a high calibre and showcased the diversity of what is truly a magnificent destination. The best of the best were recognised for their achievements and as a result I know that award recipients will continue to raise the bar for all tourism operators on the island. I would like to congratulate Sunferries and TOBMI for their hard work in getting the event off the ground in it’s inaugural year.’ Mr Waters said.
