Baby whale brings cries of delight

Baby whale just loving Geoffrey Bay In a superb week of Magnetic weather the talk about the Rock has focussed on a big subject: whales! Yes it's prime whale watching time and a couple of days ago, retired journo and returnee to Magnetic Island, Peter Simon happened to snap this lovely shot of a whale calf at play at Geoffrey Bay.

Peter told Magnetic Times, "It was taken from the ferry on Wednesday off Geoffrey Bay. The ripple behind is the mother. Unfortunately I was unable to snap the mother which also put on a show.

"From a distance, with my wonky eyesight, it looked like a very chubby dolphin. The ferry skipper announced over the PA that he was deviating from the course to show us whales. Just about every passenger stood up and those with cameras began shooting. Each time the baby performed there was a cry of delight. When mum came into view, at one stage raising, a huge flipper, it sent the crowd screaming with joy."

Well spotted and snapped Peter!

Tonia In reply to The ongoing price of Nelly Bay Harbour
It's 14 years since I last visited Maggy. I am shocked by Nelly Bay and saddened. It is insensitive, ugly and juxtaposed to the essence of Maggy. I embrace progress in general, but this is poorly conceived and executed. Shame.
