Three alleged assaults on Island since Saturday
A Magnetic Island man in his 60s was allegedly assaulted early on Tuesday morning at Picnic Bay by at least one other local man who was under 20 years old. But this was just one of three different assault investigations being conducted by Magnetic Island Police since last Friday night.
Crime climbs on Magnetic
Following a man being charged for an alleged rape earlier this month, a reported alleged stabbing in Picnic Bay last Sunday and several recent car thefts from the Nelly Bay Harbour car park, Constable Brendan Nugent of the Magnetic Island Police, underlined the changing nature of the community when he told Magnetic Times, "Overall crime has increased by between 250 and 300 percent in the last 15 years.

Even on sunny Magnetic Island crime does occur. Earlier this month a storeroom at the Magnetic International Resort was broken into. Thirtytwo bottles of liquor and a quantity of cash was stolen in the night. Police are still investigating.
Magnetic Island residents and visitors have been urged by police to be more careful with their belongings when going for a swim at Alma Bay beach since the recent theft of belongings from five people in the last week and a half [ read more ]
