Bush ceramics studio open to visitors this weekend

Ceramic artist Jenny Mulcahy with paperbark ash glazed work This weekend potters from all over Australia will be opening their studio doors to welcome interested visitors. And on Magnetic Island, an artist who has been operating her studio here for 29 years, Jenny Mulcahy, will open hers. Many will know Jenny's former studio in Nerita Crescent, Nelly Bay, but they will be delighted to find her new workshop tucked onto a deeply forested ridge above the upper reaches of Gustav Creek.

Jenny is looking forward to meeting interested locals and visitors alike and there is much to see and learn in this idyllic bush retreat.

It is only recently that Jenny has returned to studio production of ceramic cups and pots we might use for food and drink. Most of her time in recent years has been taken up with large public art commissions which are much more sculptural. She is finishing one for Jezzine Barracks at the moment.

And if you are interested in a truly authentic Magnetic Island art form then Jenny has a fascinating array of small jugs and cups glazed from the ash of an Island paperbark tree.

The opportunity to meet with and see the working space this highly acclaimed artist produces her art from is not to be missed. The walk in will make the visit worth it on its own.

See the poster below for details.

So glad I took the walk up to Jenny's studio! I bought just a small bowl/cup, then tried to replicate it myself on the wheel. Have tried many times but get nowhere near Jenny's fine shape. It makes you appreciate the skill of an experienced potter.Highly recommend you go next time...I will definitely take more money next time.

Syl Hayes In reply to Fair raises $15,000 for school
What a wonderful outcome for the school! I had a great time face-painting with Luke and Sasha, met lots of kids and parents, scored some great books at the Trash n Treasure stall, and even remembered to vote. Everywhere you looked people were enjoying themselves...such a tribute to the organisers. Well done!
