Great travel deals for walkway opening

The Gabul way Sealink and Fantasea have jumped on board to help Townsville residents celebrate the opening of the new Gabul Way with Magnetic Islanders.

Official celebrations will be held next Sunday 3 March and Townsville City Council is inviting the city to join in the fun.

Mayor Jenny Hill said both companies were offering great discounts to get people over to the island.

“It is great to see both Fantasea and Sealink supporting this great event on Maggie and offering discounts for visitors to get over to the island on the day,” she said.

“To celebrate the official opening we have planned a fun day in Geoffrey Bay which will include a sausage sizzle, jumping castle and face painting.

“Island residents will no doubt join us for the celebration but as Maggie is the gem of our city we want people from the mainland to also come along.

“This is a great opportunity for residents to head over to the Island for the weekend or the day and stroll along the new walkway over the magnificent Maggie coastline.”

Fantasea Cruising Magnetic Operations Manager Jason Fowler said the company was delighted to offer a great discount for the day.

“We are offering a 50 per cent discount for all walk-on passengers who travel with Fantasea next Sunday,” he said.

“It is great to be part of the launch and I think it is a great thing for the island so we are doing what we can to boost visitor numbers which will benefit the operators on Maggie.”

Sealink General Manager Paul Victory said the walkway was a wonderful new project for the island and they were pleased to come on board with the opening.

“For the opening children under 14 years can travel free on Sealink with every full paying adult or concession ticket,” he said.

“The walkway is a wonderful new addition to Magnetic Island and now one of the most beautiful walks you can do in North Queensland.”

This project is supported by funding from the Australian Government's Regional Development Australia Fund.

Shame that Sealink did not give adults a discounted rate - their excessive fare is what keeps Townsville residents from visiting wonderful Maggie !!

On the money Dennis... What a pathetic "offer"... Fantasea is advertising something a little bit better, but how many people would think of using the barge as a walk on service? I for one would love to see the barge full next Sunday and Sealink empty...
