Musos Club is back for 2013

After a break over the summer months, the Magnetic Island Musos club makes its long awaited return on the first Sunday of March. The club is trying out a new format for 2013. ‘We wanted to change it up a bit and not be competing so much with the live acts that venues put on across the island on a Friday and Saturday night. So we decided to go with a family friendly Sunday sesh type of format,’ says Kelly Grech, the new president of Magnetic Island Musos Club.

‘After some research into various venues, we eventually chose Sunbirdz Café as our location for the monthly Sunday afternoon event. But this isn’t set in stone, we actually like the idea of moving around to a few different venues throughout the year. We want to keep it interesting,’ Kelly said.

The Musos Club is also using some of their funds to bring over a feature performer/band each month. This will be supported by many of the regular artists on the island, and this month we will be entertained by the band Green Onions from Townsville.

Support performers who will be sharing their music with the club include Ray Kennedy’s band The Remains, and new performer Maria Zann. Also possibly getting up for some tunes will be Malcolm Hamilton, Steve Hamley and Fiona Moran, Kelly Grech and Trevor Nielsen, Peter Jackson and Dani Ceccarelli.

Musos Club will be looking for followers to become members for 2013 and are offering free t-shirts to anyone who signs up, with yearly membership for a single costing just $10, or $20 for a household. Funds will also be raised with the passing around of a hat, and a raffle to be run with the grand prize of a $40 gift voucher from Thirsty Camel bottleshop.

Sunbirdz Café is a BYO venue and meals are very reasonable at only $5 for kids meals and adults fish and chips or fish and salad for $10, prawns or calamari and Greek salad for $15, $12 burgers and chips or something a bit more fancy for $20.

‘I am counting on the March winds to keep us cool and with the launch of the new walkway earlier in the afternoon, it will be a fantastic way to top off an awesome Sunday,’ says Ms Grech.

Since we first posted this story Magnetic Times has removed the references to the Sara Shaw band performing as we have learned more recently that this will not be possible. Magnetic Times apologises for this error but remind readers that there are many other fine performers on offer for the first Musos gig in quite a while.
