Now you can Google a Sunbus

Sunbus parent company Transit Australia Group (TAG) revolutionised public transport in Townsville and on Magnetic Island today with the launch of a web-based journey planner that is designed to get commuters and tourists from A to B quicker, more cheaply and with much less confusion.

According to a TAG press release, TAG is the first in Queensland and among the first in Australia to proudly launch a user friendly journey planner at www.sunbus.com.au. Transit Australia Group successfully trialled the application in Cairns in 2009.

The interactive trip planner integrates bus stop; timetable; and route information with Google Maps, so that a journey (or a sequence of trips) can be planned from start to finish at a click of a mouse.

Smart phone and Ipad applications takes it one step further and offers a dynamic means to modify your journey on the go, giving you freedom and flexibility.
The cutting edge technology maps the way in which your trip will physically evolve in relation to local landmarks and surrounding streets, offering tremendous comfort to new users and tourists.

“We have researched our market carefully and appreciate that the majority of public transport users are IT savvy. TAG understands the need to improve passengers’ access to network information – Google Maps technology makes this possible,” said Megan Harkin, General Manager, Strategic Planning and Delivery for TAG.

“This application of Google Maps is groundbreaking and its benefits are far reaching. We know that Townsville is the sporting event capital of North Queensland, and now getting to and from your team’s event, without the hassle of parking is even easier”. Ms Harkin said.

To date GPS technologies have helped motorists with road directions. Now motorists can log on to www.sunbus.com.au to compare their car trip to a Sunbus trip and be pleasantly surprised with the outcome.

Ms Harkin said the Cairns trial was a huge success and attributes healthy patronage increases to the application. Rockhampton Sunbus customers are next in line for the website upgrade, expected later in the year.

To celebrate the launch Sunbus customers can to log onto www.sunbus.com.au for a chance to win a ‘Nokia N85’or free travel on the Sunbus network for a year.

Unimpressed - any trip starting from the Island and ending in Townsville is apparently out of their area. I will stick to bus timetables and plan my tripby the old manual method.

Syl Hayes In reply to Fair raises $15,000 for school
What a wonderful outcome for the school! I had a great time face-painting with Luke and Sasha, met lots of kids and parents, scored some great books at the Trash n Treasure stall, and even remembered to vote. Everywhere you looked people were enjoying themselves...such a tribute to the organisers. Well done!
