Smoke at Curlew Flats

The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service will conduct a planned burn tomorrow Tuesday 10th August 2010 at Curlew Flats on the eastern side of Horseshoe Bay Road.

As a result, smoke will be seen in the Curlew Flats area and is likely to affect this section of the road between Arcadia and Horseshoe Bay.

Traffic control will be in place if necessary and motorists are asked to drive with care through this area.

The fire will take place around the middle of the day.

The walking track from Arcadia to Curlew Flats will be closed from tomorrow to Wednesday 11th August for fire operations.

The Curlew Flats area was last burnt 17 years ago. The purpose of this planned burn is to encourage the regeneration of the Acacia woodland in this area.

QPWS and the Townsville City Council have been undertaking weed control in the Curlew Flats area over the past 4 years. TCC will assist QPWS with this planned burn operation that will be continuing the ongoing joint weed control effort.

For more information, please call Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service on Magnetic Island on 4778 5378.

Syl Hayes In reply to Fair raises $15,000 for school
What a wonderful outcome for the school! I had a great time face-painting with Luke and Sasha, met lots of kids and parents, scored some great books at the Trash n Treasure stall, and even remembered to vote. Everywhere you looked people were enjoying themselves...such a tribute to the organisers. Well done!
