World Oceans Day draws closer
The 2009 inaugural Magnetic Island World Ocean’s Day was a huge success and this year’s celebrations, set for Sunday June 6, are looking even bigger and better with a great selection of activities for everyone!
This year the organisers are hoping to draw a larger, more diverse crowd to take part in this worldwide event.
World Ocean's Day combines lots of activities from fancy dress to photo competitions and we hear there is a call out for any musos interested in busking and jamming to simply bring their instruments down to Alma Bay park between 10am and 3pm.
And while the WOD is focussing on the Ocean, excitment is building for another event, Magnetic Island Nature Care's Carbon Cuts short film competition, which promises to show how creative Magnetic Island filmakers, young and old, are when it comes to serious subject of cutting carbon. Carbon Cuts screens at the All Seasons Hotel in Nelly Bay at 5pm.
Help the World's Oceans with Beach Clean Ups!
As far as hands on help for our ocean there are few more useful and satisfying activities than to simply grab a big bag and wander an Island beach to collect rubbish which has (mostly) washed up there or been dropped by less thoughtful individuals. You can help by being part of the many beach clean-ups which will be happening around Magnetic Island. Simply register at the following locations to take part:
• Noodies for Horseshoe Bay
• Pleasure Divers for Alma & Geoffrey Bays
• Base Backpackers for Nelly Bay
• Sunbirdz Cafe for Picnic Bay
• Providence V for Arthur Bay
Or visit the Alma Bay Park Info Tent until 2pm for more information.
