Bay Days last weekend plus a bogan barbie
The final weekend of the Bays Days Festival 2009 finishes with a bang, not a whimper and for those who have been following their Bay Days calendar of events there is a major event on tonight and tomorrow, Tropic Sun's production of “3 Blokes and their barbies”
The sensitive new-age bogan brothers are back! Directed by Karen Gibb, this is a hilarious exploration of the pastime that is barbecuing, an inside look at Aussie men burning meat on a grill while espousing backyard wisdom.
For these blokes, beer is the answer to the meaning of life and the love of a good woman will never compare to a Sunday spent fishing in the tinnie.
"If I had to sum up this unusual mix of comedy sketch, musical and theatre in one word, I'd pick hilarious!.
If you like sketch or stand up comedy, then you'll love Three Blokes and their Barbies. One of the funniest shows I've ever seen. Don't miss it" Winsome Denyer ABC.
3 Blokes and Their Barbies is an under-the-stars production at the Smart Lifestyle Centre at Horseshoe Bay, BBQ (courtesy of the Arcadia Surf Lifesaving Club) from 6.45pm and show at 7.30pm.
Pre-purchase tickets on the Island from at Soiree, Picnic Bay; Island Nursery, Nelly; Arcadia Store; or Foodworks Horseshoe Bay. Or rock up and rock on and buy at the door. (Chairs provided)
From the City catch the 6pm ferry and the connecting Bus to Horseshoe Bay (ask for Solar Cities stop) - you will be home on the 10.35pm boat.
And if you see the 3 blokes tonight you will be well set to hear the soulful Sara Shaw Quartet on Friday Night from 6pm - 9pm at Bungalow Bay, Horseshoe Bay Road, Horseshoe Bay.
Then on Saturday morning Magnetic Island Rotary's Trash and Treasure returns to the Arcadia Hotel Carpark from 8am till 1pm. And this Trash and Treasure comes with some very fine treasure indeed. The 18 piece Cairns Chamber Ensemble(formerly Cairns Youth Chamber Orchestra) is returning to Magnetic Island to play their brand of bright and entertaining music in support of Rotary from 9.30am.
Later in the day at 12.30pm the Ensemble will appear at Le Paradis French restaurant in Nelly Bay at 12.30pm. That evening they will also perform at the All Seasons (formerly International Resort) 6.30pm and on Sunday they will appear at the Barefoot Gallery in Horseshoe Bay from 11.30am.
And we couldn't have a festival without one. From 6pm on Saturday there will be a Picnic on the Jetty under the full moon. BYO picnic and chairs. Music will be from Candela and prizes will be awarded for for the best dressed picnic! Then, at 8pm, a drum performance and some Latin dancing on the foreshore to shake it all down.
To finish on a real community note why not return to the the Smart Lifestyle Centre (HSB) for some lung exercise in our community Sing-Sing at 4pm. Do you sing opera in the shower? Serenade the circular Saw in the shed? Belt out old Beatles numbers doing the housework? Whatever your ability, just come and enjoy the power of singing together (chairs provided). And it's a great opportunity to view the artists' concepts for the public sculpture, to be built at Nelly Bay harbour, which will be on display there until Monday.
