Hitchhiker Premier

Dale Mickelo and Ron Pulman in Hitchhikers Hitchhiker by emerging indigenous playwright Kamahi-Djordan King will have its premier in Townsville next week . The play is certainly not for the faint hearted! It's a volatile mix of drama and humour that focuses on the subtle tones of racism and drug use without trying to provide a quick fix solution.

Directed by Jean-Pierre Voos, Hitchhiker will be presented by TLC, the developmental stream of Townsville's Tropic Sun Theatre which promises to produce adventurous new plays for minimal cost.

Hitchhiker has gone through a number of polishes having been entered into Townsville's 'World Interplay' festival in 2001, where it was workshopped and refined, a condensed version of the play was then presented at Brisbane's La Boite Theatre; this is the first performance of the now completed Hitchhiker.

The play's main character Robert (played by Ron Pulman) who has recently split from his wife and is doing whatever he can to make ends meet. Whilst travelling to Cairns he picks up a mysterious hitchhiker, Dave (played by Dale Mickelo). Both have a secret, both know the other is hiding something. As they travel, each uncovers more of himself than he bargained for, shattering preconceptions and revealing the characters ignorance.

Please note that if strong language offends you then Hitchhiker is probably not your cup of tea!

Hitchhiker will be performed at 477 Flinders St West (Ex Don Teakle's Studio)
from September 10th through to September 13th at 8pm and Sunday the 14th at 5pm.

Tickets are available at the door and are $18 (concession $15, members $14 and school students $7).
