Has Magnetic Island got talent?

Charlotte Roberts The Magnetic Island Musos Club is on a talent search and young of Magnetic Islanders will be given a chance to show off their talents on Saturday 21st September at the Spring Equinox Festival at Alma Bay.

Youth under the age of 18 are encouraged to enter the competition which has $200 cash prize money up for grabs. But the question is, has Magnetic Island got talent? So far there has been mainly dancers entering the talent quest, so Musos Club are eager to have some more singers and musicians as part of the show.

Children are encouraged to enter the Talent Quest in pairs or even a small group, to show off their talent as dancers, singers, musicians or even poets. Time is running out but entries can be received on the day as long as a parent is able to fill in the registration form for their child.

The show starts at 2pm on the main stage at Alma Bay. Judges for the talent Quest will be Jazz and Blues singer Sara Shaw, your editor and sometimes warbler, George Hirst, and musician and singer Ben Vernon.

If an entrant doesnít win a cash prize they will still receive a consolation prize. Nobody will leave empty handed.

The show will also feature young artist from Townsville Charlotte Roberts who is recording her new album and under management with sponsor Tomís Tavern.

The Spring Equinox Festival on September 21st at Alma Bay will also include market stalls and a food swap for local growers. There will be workshops, demonstrations of Zumba and Yoga, a drumming circle, a maypole and the afternoon will conclude at sunset with a Spring Equinox ritual to celebrate nature and the seasons.

The event kicks off at midday and ends at 6.30pm. Stall holders are still needed, contact Megan on 0455 970 289.

Parents who want to enter their child or group in the Talent Quest can download an entry form at www.whatsonmagneticisland.com.au or pick up a form from the school office. An entry form drop box will be located in the school office until next Thursday 19th September.

Backing tracks for entrants will need to be provided on a CD. The musos club will provide a PA and microphones, as well as a full sound desk, for entrants. Contact Kelly for more information on 0416 272 806. Donít miss out on this fun community event to kick off the school holiday period next Saturday at Alma Bay.

Syl Hayes In reply to Fair raises $15,000 for school
What a wonderful outcome for the school! I had a great time face-painting with Luke and Sasha, met lots of kids and parents, scored some great books at the Trash n Treasure stall, and even remembered to vote. Everywhere you looked people were enjoying themselves...such a tribute to the organisers. Well done!
