'Magnetic Island: Here, There and Now' exhibition for harbour terminal

Nelly Bay Terminal in 2003 On Sunday, 1st September 2013 the Nelly Bay Harbour and terminal building will be ten years old. To mark this milestone locals on Magnetic Island are organising an art exhibition and competition to be shown in the terminal building. The exhibition will be a feature event in the Magnetic Island Bay Dayz Festival and will be open to the public over the period of the festival from Sunday 1st September until Sunday 6th October.

With the success of a grant from the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) the organisers have been able to fit out the Nelly Bay terminal building with a picture tracking system that will make the terminal a permanent public art space - a direct community benefit flowing from the Magnetic Island Bay Dayz Festival.

With the support of Queensland Transport a Gala Opening of the exhibition will be held at 10.30am on Sunday 1st September when the judges' selections for the winning pieces will be announced. The theme of the exhibition is Magnetic Island - Here, There and Now and is open to paintings, photography and sculpture.

The Queensland Country Credit Union is sponsoring a $500 acquisitive first prize in the competition. That is, the bank pays $500 and acquires the piece to hang in their premises. There will also be a youth cash prize for under 18s.

The Regional Arts Development Fund is a Queensland Government through Arts Queensland and Townsville City Council partnership to support local arts and culture.

All artists, young and old, are being encouraged to become involved. Registration closes on Monday 26 August. For more information on how to register your artwork, please visit http://www.whatsonmagneticisland.com.au and download the NBH Art Exhibition & Competition Registration Form.
