Zumba is back!

Student Kerri Cooper Zumbas with Kelly Grech Zumba, the latin-inspired, easy to follow, calorie burning, dance fitness party is back on Magnetic Island.

After 6 months without Zumba since Yvonne Tawhai moved to Townsville, classes are back on the Island with a new instructor at the helm.

It's all thanks to Yvonne getting behind one of her faithful students. Yvonne convinced Kelly Grech to become a Zumba instructor and has offered much support and encouragement for Kelly's transition from student to teacher.

Classes have now started at the Uniting Church Hall every Tuesday and Thursday at 10.30am and Wednesday evenings at 6pm.

'I wasn't an exercise type of person. I get bored running, riding and all the usual types of exercise but when you can dance and exercise with Zumba, it's a totally different experience. It's a great way to warm up on a cold winter morning, and getting moving really raises your endorphins. You feel good all day after doing Zumba,' Kelly says.

Yvonne Tawhai is planning to return to the island one day a week to hold classes as well, with a specialised kids class called Zumbatomic and a class for seniors, Zumba Gold.

The current venue for classes is the Uniting Church Hall in Turnbridge Street, Nelly Bay.

Classes will be held throughout the school holidays and parents can let their kids under 12 join in for free. Teenagers under 18 can participate for the reduced price of $7 per class, and this price is also offered to pensioners.

Adult prices are $12 per class and a ten class flexi is available for $100. But Kelly has made a special offer for Magnetic Times readers. Mention you saw this article and you can buy one class and get one free! For more information call Kelly on 0416272806 or go to

Syl Hayes In reply to Fair raises $15,000 for school
What a wonderful outcome for the school! I had a great time face-painting with Luke and Sasha, met lots of kids and parents, scored some great books at the Trash n Treasure stall, and even remembered to vote. Everywhere you looked people were enjoying themselves...such a tribute to the organisers. Well done!
