Magnetic Island Tourism is first!
TOBMI (Tourism Operators & Businesses Magnetic Island) will be the first local tourism organisation to negotiate a shared membership with Townsville Enterprise (TEL) which will bring excellent benefits to its island members.
Chair of TOBMI, Lindsay Simpson said the deal was unique in the history of LTOs (Local Tourism Organisations and RTOs (Regional Tourism Organisation).
TOBMI is the LTO for the Island, and TEL is the RTO for Tourism Queensland.
"The deal means great recognition for our grass roots organisation. Local businesses, for example, can get their brochures displayed in the Visitor Information Centres (VICís) in Townsville including the brand new one in the mall. The VICís are often the first stopping point for visitors to the region so that the island, as a destination, is immediately identifiable to tourists. We will also have our own special stand.
She said that the shared membership deal also meant that TOBMI would be represented on TEL's Tourism Development and Marketing Strategic Advisory Committee and that the initiative opened up the opportunity for joint projects between the two organisations.
"TOBMI will also be working with TEL to establish the first Regional Council of LTOs so we can meet and share information with other LTOs in the Burdekin and as far north as up to Mission Beach,Ē Simpson said.
ďAt a time when tourism as an industry is struggling against everything from the GFC, floods, a cyclone and the increase in the Australian dollar, itís a good time to band together and pool resources.Ē
