QPWS Planned burns and walking track update
Fire crews have been busy over the past week successfully conducting planned burns around Mt Paluma including burns behind residential areas in Nelly Bay and Arcadia according to Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS).QPWS Rangers have been working with the Queensland Fire and Rescue Service and Department of Environment and Resource Management crews to conduct the planned burns.
The cool dry days, light winds, low overnight temperatures and dew have been perfect conditions to achieve low intensity slow moving fires.
The Nelly Arcadia walking track was reopened on the weekend.
Nelly Arcadia walking track
The understorey on only one side of the track has been burnt and there is still plenty of green landscape to see for residents and visitors planning to walk the track.
QPWS would like to thank the community for their patience and apologise for any inconvenience caused due the fires or track closures.
The fires have effectively reduced fuel loads in the bush and Rangers will be moving onto other areas next week when conditions are suitable. Locations of the planned burns will be advertised on local news websites and Rangers will be endeavouring to speak to residents whose properties border the planned burns.
For more information, please call Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service on Magnetic Island on 4778 5378.

Syl Hayes In reply to Fair raises $15,000 for school What a wonderful outcome for the school! I had a great time face-painting with Luke and Sasha, met lots of kids and parents, scored some great books at the Trash n Treasure stall, and even remembered to vote. Everywhere you looked people were enjoying themselves...such a tribute to the organisers. Well done!
