Buddhist teaching Monk to visit

This weekend Magnetic Island Buddha Dharma will host the visit of Australian Buddhist Monk, Ajahn Sujato, who will be conducting a day of teachings.

In 1994 Ajahn Sujato (Anthony Best) left his music career to take higher ordination in Thailand in the Forest Lineage of Ajahn Chah. As well as living for several years in the forest monasteries and remote hermitages in Thailand, he spent three years in Bodhinyana Monastery (Perth) as secretary of Ajahn Brahmavamso, and over a year in a cave in Malaysia.

He has combined his love of meditation with study of the Buddhas's teachings, and in 2001 published his first book, A Swift Pair of Messengers, a compilation of Sutta passages on the theme of tranquillity and insight. He now resides at Santi Forest Monastery, Bundanoon, NSW.

A programme of Ajahn Sujato's teaching sessions follows:

9.30 - 11am: Developing Mindfulness through Meditation. (In this session, Bhante will briefly discuss the concept of mindfulness, and the ways in which meditation may be undertaken. Meditation practice will follow for approximately one hour incorporating both Sitting and Walking practices.

11.15 - 12.30: Lunch including offerings for Bhante Sujato (please bring a dish of vegetarian food to share)

12.30 - 2: The Sattipathana Sutta: The Four Foundations of Mindfulness. What are the Four Foundations? How might these help us in our Mindfulness Practice? What are some of the techniques used to develop mindfulness in each of the areas?

2 - 2.30: (break)

Syl Hayes In reply to Fair raises $15,000 for school
What a wonderful outcome for the school! I had a great time face-painting with Luke and Sasha, met lots of kids and parents, scored some great books at the Trash n Treasure stall, and even remembered to vote. Everywhere you looked people were enjoying themselves...such a tribute to the organisers. Well done!
