A young koala's beach adventure

June 3rd 2005
Garden State

MI Fim Society movie for June "Andrew Largeman (Zach Braff) shuffled through life in a lithium-induced coma until his mother's death inspired a vacation from the pills to see what might happen," is how online movie review site Rotten Tomatoes begin the synopsis of this well received, first directed, movie by Zach Braff screening tomorrow night (June 4) as Magnetic Island Film Society's film for the month at the RSL Hall in Arcadia..

Some of the other reviews from Rotten Tomatoes (click here), which averaged an 88% (fresh) approval rate, included the following:

"There are a few films each year that sneak up out of nowhere and totally knock you out; this is one. Amazing!" - John Venable, SUPERCALA.COM

"Smart, perceptive and funny filmmaking from a genuine talent in Zach Braff." - Brian Webster, APOLLO GUIDE

"This is all relatively standard stuff at first glance, but much of the zing of the movie comes from the wobbly curveballs that Braff throws at the formula." - Andrew Wright, THE STRANGER (SEATTLE, WA)

"So emotionally honest and is so well-done that it's hard not to take to it." - Jeff Vice, DESERET NEWS, SALT LAKE CITY

"Somewhere between the Prozac and Zoloft is a comedy of intemerate charm." - Mark Sells, CINESCENE.COM

The movie starts at 8pm and admission for non-members is $10 and $8 with members free. Very affordable drinks from the RSL bar will be on sale prior to the screening.

Syl Hayes In reply to Fair raises $15,000 for school
What a wonderful outcome for the school! I had a great time face-painting with Luke and Sasha, met lots of kids and parents, scored some great books at the Trash n Treasure stall, and even remembered to vote. Everywhere you looked people were enjoying themselves...such a tribute to the organisers. Well done!
