A great way to support your community

Fun at the Club on Origin Day It's that time of year again: when the home to Magnetic Island's legendary Bay of Origin footy matches, Walk-In Movies, Kid's discos, Santa-on-a-stallion Christmas parties and a myriad of other sporting and community activities, looks to the Magnetic Island community for new volunteers and committee members to get involved by coming forward for the Annual General Meeting of the Magnetic Island Sport and Recreation Club to be held this Saturday at the Club on Horseshoe Bay road at 3pm.

For over twenty years the club, which was built from scratch by Islanders, has been a focus for community activity providing a friendly environment with a real community focus for Island families to get together and pursue common recreational and sporting interests.

In the last year the Club's immediate environs have been greatly enhanced by the new Island skate part and extensive tree plantings. Its high quality video projector also ensures great family entertainment with the Walk-In movies.

Teenagers who are often at a loose end on Magnetic find the Club to be one of the few places where they can enjoy regular entertainment that they can afford without a trip to Townsville.

Club stalwart and present Committee member Kylie Lewis told Magnetic Times, "Due to some members moving on and others having taken on a bit more than they can chew we would love to see some new blood. It's a community organisation and it needs the community to keep all the great things going as well as try some new ones. There are few better ways you can really support your community than by becoming active in the Club - so we'd love to see some fresh faces"

As an incorporated body all positions for the committee are open for nomination.
